This is for all levels. Taking drawing class is a good idea if you want to paint in watercolor, but feel scared or need to develop drawing skills first. There is a way to draw outlines without any skills (using a carbon transfer sheet), but it will add individual personality to your work if you draw on your own, instead of “transferring” from a photo. Also, developing an understanding of value (variety of dark and light, or density of color) is very important for painting in watercolor.
Students can use pencil, charcoal or charcoal pencil. If s/he is unsure about what to get, s/he can borrow the instructor’s materials.
Recommended paper: Strathmore 400 series or 300 series (Other paper should be fine.)
Recommended pencils: Faber-Castell H,HB, 2B, 4B, 6B
Recommended charcoal pencils: Faber-Castell 2B, 4B, 6B
Recommended kneaded eraser: Faber-Castell
Recommended eraser: Staedtler
Charcoal: Any brand is fine, in my experience. Currently, willow charcoal (vine charcoal) is my favorite.
Fee: One-on-one session $60/person/2 hours, $40/2hours/person for two or more students
